Cannes lineup announced

The lineup for this year’s Cannes Film Festival has been announced. Was there even a festival last year? All I remember is some big event organized so Lars Von Trier could express his feelings about Hitler. Was there a film festival around that? Are we sure? Okay, if you say so.

Anyway, the schedule is here. Just in case you are not going to make it to Cannes, because who has the time to head all the way to Cannes yet again (we can only go to Cannes so many times in one year), here’s what you will be missing: Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” will open the festival, which will also include anticipated new films from David Cronenberg (“Cosmopolis”), Walter Salles (“On The Road”), Lee Daniels (“The Paperboy”) and John Hillcoat (“Lawless,” his Prohibition-era film with Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy). “Madagascar 3″ will also be screening, but it will be out of competition in order to give the other films a shot at winning something.

Dave Itzkoff reports that films from Terrence Malick and Paul Thomas Anderson were not finished in time to enter the festival, despite speculation that Anderson’s “The Master” would be screened.

The festival will run from May 16 to May 27. Make sure to book your flights soon!
